Becoming a volunteer

Volunteer training

At the start of every season our volunteers are encouraged to attend training
sessions focusing on the safe operation of the yacht and of the specialised
adaptations fitted to Able2Sail, such as the hoist. These training
sessions are
lead by the skippers and consist of both alongside and on the water
exercises.

How much time do I need to volunteer?

Below is a typical sailing day:

Time Activity

0930 Arrive at Able2Sail and assist in boat preparation
0950 Skipper gives crew safety briefing
1000 Client(s) are met at the gate and fitted with life jackets
1015 Depart Kip for the morning sail
1230 Return to Inverkip for lunch and change of clients
1530 Return to Inverkip and tidy yacht
1600 Boat tidied away and prepared ready for the next day’s sailing

The next steps

Able2Sail requires no minimum sailing commitment of volunteers and sailing experience is helpful but not essential. We are always actively seeking enthusiastic new members of crew whatever their level of experience to help us continue to offer sailing experiences to disabled persons.

If you feel that volunteering with able2sail is for you or would like to find out more then please either get in touch with us via the contact details provided or go ahead and sign up as a new volunteer by completing our online application.
